Jay Maxwell

Jay Maxwell has been studying and practising as a martial artist for over thirty years, switching his focus to Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) in 2004. He regularly teaches at high profile international events and is one of the top ranked competitive HEMA fencers in the world.

Jay has primarily focused on the north-Italian methodologies of what is now called sidesword and early rapier and the influence these have had on the martial systems of the Holy Roman Empire. Part of these efforts involve working with the de Walden Collection held at the Royal Armouries Wallace Collection in London, where Jay is currently working on an English translation of Schöffer von Dietz.
