Black powder and serious fireworks

With the increasing popularity of black powder for large cannons and rifles in the course of the 15th century, the search for other welcome uses for this eerie and terrifying substance intensified. Thanks to great inventiveness, a wide range of different military fireworks developed over the next two centuries, which shaped warfare, especially the struggle for fortified places. The spectrum spanned from simple firing bolts, to light bales, earth mortars and storm barrels to highly technical drop grenades with impact detonators that were more than 2 centuries ahead of their time.
